  • Digital and offset working Suitable for use with digital and offset print, XMF PrintCentre dispels the myth that web-to-print is for digital print only. You can use it to sell static print, allowing customers to order stock items such as brochures, flyers and catalogs, or use it as a means to sell personalized print such as stationery, conference material or photobooks.

This article explains how to configure a FUJIFILM Workflow XMF 5.5+ (PGSQL) RIP setup in Serendipity Blackmagic/Veripress 5.4+, allowing it to poll the PGSQL database and the XMF/genstore/ for proofing jobs.

It is assumes Workflow XMF and it’s PGSQL database are configured and running normally – with a ‘postgres’ login that has ownership of the ‘xmfdb’ database.

Configuration for a Blackmagic/Veripress Server running on the same machine as XMF (localhost)

PostgreSQL setup

Other than having the XMF PGSQL up and functioning as a service, no special configuration is required for Veripress/Blackmagic to be able to connect to and poll the local Genstore for jobs.

Blackmagic / Veripress RIP setup

1. Create a new RIP database item on the Workbench

2. Select the FUJIFILM Workflow XMF (PGSQL) driver RIP driver, then configure the Custom Settings:-

Use plate number for sorting (enabled/disabled) – user preference

Include additional information in job name (enabled/disabled) – user preference

Database hostname – localhost

Database user name – provided by your XMF dealer

Database password – provided by your XMF dealer

Database Port – provided by your XMF dealer

3. Set the Polling Method to Localhost

4. Set the polling Path to the genstore location, this will normally be:-

C:/Program Files/Fujifilm/XMF

5. Configure any AutoProofing options desired

6. Click the Test button (this will save the RIP setup) and check the result is a “Polling OK” message.

Configuration for connecting a Blackmagic/Veripress Server to the XMF machine across a network.

Manual

PostgreSQL setup

The PGSQL server needs to be configured to allow a connection from the Veripress/Blackmagic Server machine. This can be done in two ways…

Use the pgAdmin III Tool

Open the pgAdmin III tool on the XMF machine.

Select File Menu > Open pg_hba.conf…

Navigate to and open:-

C:/Program Files/FujiFilm/XMF/data/Database/data/pg_hba.conf

Then use the Backend Access Configuration Editor to add and enable a new Client. Double-Click on a blank entry. When the ‘Client Access Configuration’ window opens enter the following:-

Enable – tick

Type – host

Database – all

User – postgres

IP address – IP address/32, where ‘IP address’ is the is the network IP of the machine running the Veripress/Blackmagic Server. e.g. 192.168.3.78/32

Method – md5

This will result in a line in the Backend Access Configuration Editor window

host all postgres 192.168.3.78/32 md5

Hit the Save button in the Backend Access Configuration Editor, close the editor, then close the pgAdmin III software.

Alternatively, you can apply the change directly by

Adding a line to the ‘pg_hba.conf’ file

Navigate to the

C:/Program Files/FujiFilm/XMF/data/Database/data/pg_hba.conf

Manual

file and open it in a text editor.

Go to the bottom of the file and the following line:-

host all postgres IP address/32 md5

where the ‘IP address’ is the network IP of the machine running the Veripress/Blackmagic Server. For example,

host all postgres 192.168.3.78/32 md5

Save and close the file.

To apply the change to the database, open:-

Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services

and Restart the ‘PostgreSQL Server 9.2’ service.

Serendipity Polling Agent setup

Install the Serendipity Polling Agent on the XMF machine.

The Serendipity Agent can be located on the Serendipity installation DVD /agent/windows/ folder.

Fujifilm has announced that the tilia Griffin wide format automatic layout solution from Tilia Labs has been added to its suite of XMF workflow products. Â

tilia Griffin automates the process of laying out jobs on a single sheet in order to maximise the printed area and minimise the substrate waste after cutting, a process that many wide format printers still use Adobe Illustrator or similar programmes to achieve. tilia Griffin rapidly works out the optimal use of space, saving both the time taken to do this process manually and the material that is inevitably wasted through a time consuming manual process.

Sagen de Jonge, CEO of Tilia Labs explains: “tilia Griffin’s workflow and design is so simple and intuitive even the most novice user can be up and running in no time. It features a modern, ultra-responsive interface, beautiful visuals, and an intuitive design and it’s designed to work well with virtually all printers and cutting tables. Any print shop creating layouts manually and struggling to meet deadlines or failing to maximise substrate usage will enjoy immediate benefits.”

The system offers true shape nesting with any rotation. Using the powerful and fast tilia Phoenix nesting engine, tilia Griffin creates true-shape, tightly nested layouts, helping to minimise substrate waste and associated costs, and increase throughput. The most cost-effective way to produce jobs is revealed in minutes when it previously could have taken hours.

The ultra-responsive and attractive user interface is the result of tilia Griffin being built on Tilia Labs’ new Aries UI platform. The result is an excellent user experience that is a pleasure to look at as well as being easy to use.

Fast and responsive and featuring barcode tracking, camera registration, grommets and more, tilia Griffin is the all-round perfect solution for sign and digital print companies looking to quickly step up their production capabilities.

John Davies, Product Group Manager, Workflow, Fujifilm Europe concluded: “This announcement underlines Fujifilm’s commitment to introducing leading solutions in the wide-format sector and offers our many wide-format customers a way to boost their efficiency and profitability still further.

Xmf App

“Available either for purchase or on a rolling subscription, tilia Griffin has been demonstrated to a range of our wide format print partners, all of whom have commented on its remarkable ease of use as well as its efficiency and accuracy.

“In partnership with Tilia Labs, we’re delighted to be able to offer a tool to enhance our strong wide format proposition still further and we encourage all wide format printers to investigate the savings this system could deliver.”
